What is Round Table?

Round Table is an association of clubs for young men aged 18 to 40.

It provides an opportunity for members to meet on a regular basis and take part in a diverse variety of activities including social events, sports, international visits, community services and making new friends.

Started by Louis "Mark" Marchesi in 1927, the movement has expanded in over 50 countries.

The activity of the club is based on the general aims of the Round Table Organisation: "Adopt - Adapt - Improve".

Forget any pre-conceived ideas you may have about Round Table. It's friendly, fun and rewarding. Ask any Round Tabler and he will tell you that the movement expands horizons and gives you a passport to a world-wide group of friends.

Objectives

The objectives of Round Table are set out in six Aims which were established at Norwich in 1927 and which, with only minor wording amendments, have remained the same ever since. They are:

  1. To develop the acquaintance of young men through the medium of their various occupations.
  2. To emphasize the fact that one's calling offers an excellent medium of service to the community.
  3. To cultivate the highest ideals in business, professional and civic traditions.
  4. To recognise the worthiness of all legitimate occupations and to dignify each his own, by precept and example.
  5. To further the establishment of peace and goodwill in international relationships.
  6. To further these objects by meetings, lectures, dicussions and other activities.

Membership

Membership is open to men between the ages of 18 and 40 years irrespective of their religious beliefs or political opinions. The only restriction placed on the potential member is that he should either work or reside in the catchment area of the Table. Membership will end at the end of the year this person is getting the age of 40.

Membership of a person shall be based on a proposal originally made by two club members, who are informing the club council about the candidate. If the club council is considering the candidate suitable for RT membership, the council presents the proposal to the clubs general session. The proposal of membership can be accepted by unanimity.

Clubs activity is conducted by club council elected for a tenure of one year. The council consists of clubs chairman and five members (one of the members shall be a members of previous years council). The highest authority in a club is, however, possessed by clubs annual session.

Round Table is participating organisation and although by rule members are required to attend at least 60% of Table meetings in any year, anyone who contemplates membership in the spirit of minimum commitment is unlikely to gain fully from what Round Table offers.
